    Calculation method

    How profile weight is estimated

For a catalogue profile, the calculator uses the kg/m published for that exact profile. For a custom section, it converts cross-section area and the selected material density into a theoretical kg/m.

The result is for early planning. Confirm the drawing, alloy, tolerances, finish, fabrication and measured weight before specifying or ordering.

    01 / Section area

Enter the area from a drawing, or calculate it from a solid rectangle, round bar, rectangular tube or round tube. Tube area is the outside area less the inside void.

    02 / Mass per metre

    kg/m = area (mm²) × density (kg/m³) ÷ 1,000,000

The conversion accounts for millimetres squared in the section area and metres in the length.

03 / Cut pieces and order

    kg/piece = kg/m × cut length (m)

    Order kg = kg/piece × quantity

    Worked example

A 100 mm² section at 2,700 kg/m³ is 0.270 kg/m. At 2 m per piece and 100 pieces, the theoretical order mass is 54 kg.
